Writing Your Resume

Writing your resume is not that difficult.

  • Keep the information clear and concise. Use only one sheet if possible but no more than two.
  • Do not use more than two fonts. The simpler the better. This is not an art contest, employers are looking for professionalism from beginning to end.
  • Use plain white or cream paper. Fancy shaded paper tends to photocopy and fax very poorly.

Write a cover letter to be mailed with the resume. Address the letter to the hiring manager.

Letter and resume should be typewritten if at all possible.

Take several copies of the resume with you to the interview. Prepare a list of references (name, company name, title, contact information) on a separate sheet to give to the interviewer if it is requested.
