Description: In this first concert of 2012 the RSO travels to the Mideast through ancient tales woven into music by composers Mendelssohn, Hovhaness, and Rimsky-Korsakov. Rockford's own Michael Alongi will perform, lending his accordion to the poem "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam" set to music, invoking mystery, contemplation, fantasy, romance, and adventure. Rockford singer and actor Scott Chachula will join Alongi onstage as narrator. In the second half of the concert, the RSO spins the tales of "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights" in orchestral splendor with Rimsky-Korsakov's ever-popular "Scheherazade."
